I do know that when I turned to the homepage of The Morning News today I was confronted by a hand drawn image of an LP cover - headlined Mingering Mike - and in seeing that image the basic details of his story surfaced.
A solitary man with ambitions to make it big as a soul musician, Mingering Mike realized his fantasies by drafting an unending series album covers, each LP detailed with song titles, artists names, record labels, and promotional stickers. The artwork typically featured Mike as the lead performer, but periodically the albums were for other artists, like this one, The Outsiders Featuring The Big "D":

As it turns out, I first read about Mingering Mike in the New York Times.
